ISKAASHI vindt het belangrijk dat boeren bedrijven in de agrarische sector meer voedsel kunnen produceren om voedsel te kort in de wereld te bestrijden. Maar de boeren moeten tegelijkertijd toegang krijgen tot de wereld markt. Hun producten moeten daardoor voldoen aan de Fairtrade keurmerk, om eerlijk in de marketen te kunnen verdienen.

Fairtrade is een keurmerk dat aangeeft dat het product dat u koopt ‘eerlijk’ is. Dit betekent dat boeren en arbeiders in ontwikkelingslanden een eerlijke prijs krijgen voor hun product en dat zij werken onder betere omstandigheden. Zij moeten kunnen leven van hun werk en kunnen investeren in een duurzame toekomst.

Bij fairtrade producten wordt altijd een minimumprijs aangehouden. Dit is het minimale bedrag dat altijd aan de boer, arbeider wordt betaald. Deze voorwaarde is er om hen te beschermen tegen de sterk veranderende wereldmarkt. Als de wereldmarktprijs opeens heel erg daalt en onder de afgesproken minimumprijs uitkomt, wordt toch de minimumprijs betaald. 

Op dit moment presteert Afrika slecht in de fairtrade. Het continent is goed maar 15% vertegenwoordigt (Mondiaal Nieuws). Volgens een rapport van het Belgisch Fairtrade Centrum werd het aantal Afrikaanse Partners die eerlijkhandelsproducten naar Europa exporteren de laatste 10 jaar gehalveerd.

We willen onder meer voorlichtingscampagne voeren om de boeren bewust te laten worden zodat ze in de veranderde wereldmarkt hun producten fairtrade eisen voldoen.

Bovendien willen we organisatie en bedrijven in Nederland en Europa vragen om de standaarden van fairtrade te hanteren.
